Melghat Tiger Conservation Foundation (MTCF) bridges wildlife preservation with sustainable community livelihoods across 55 fringe villages.
Statutory Mandate & Objectives
MTCF is a registered autonomous trust created under Section 38(X) of the Wildlife Protection Act (1972). It enables administrative flexibility to receive eco-development grants, CSR donations, and safari entry fees to directly procure frontline patrol equipment, fund wildlife rescue, and restore tiger habitats.
Eco-Development Committees (EDCs)
The Foundation actively collaborates with 55 village Eco-Development Committees (EDC) representing Korku, Gond, and Nihal communities. 100% of safari guide earnings and 50% of vehicle permits are ploughed back into village welfare schemes, clean drinking water, LPG distribution, and local schools.
Governance & Executive Committee
Chaired by the Chief Conservator of Forests & Field Director, Melghat. The Board of Governors includes Deputy Conservators of Forests (DCF), District Collectors, eminent wildlife scientists, local Panchayat heads, and tribal representatives ensuring accountable and transparent stewardship.
